GM 4L80E Transmission Requirements
This adapter kit is intended for exclusive use with GM 4L80E 4WD transmissions. The 4L80E is electronically controlled, similar in strength to the TH400, and features overdrive for improved drivability.
Important transmission considerations:
- A rear output shaft speed sensor must be used
- The rear reluctor ring must be present in the transmission case
- 4WD 4L80E transmissions up to 1996 typically include the rear reluctor ring
- 1997 and newer 4WD 4L80E transmissions may have the sensor provision but lack the rear reluctor ring
