This kit is for all 4 cylinder Jeeps 1987 to 2002. The AX5 is considered a light duty transmission compared to the AX15. Jeeps equipped with larger tires and lower gears in the axle & transfer case may find the weak link in the drivetrain is the stock transmission. You can now install the AX15 in place of the AX5 to gain some drivetrain strength. The nice thing is that when you"™re ready to replace the 4 cylinder with a larger V6 or V8, the AX15 is an ideal transmission for the power increase.
These kits are for the retrofit of the AX15 transmission in place of the stock AX5 transmission in 4 cylinder equipped Jeep Wranglers. New custom front & rear drive shafts are required.
- This kit is for use when replacing the factory equipped AX5 5 speed manual transmission with the heavier duty AX15 5 speed. This kit comes with the parts necessary to make the change over as easy as possible. Please note that this option is for 1987 model wranglers that had the NP207 transfer cases.
