After continued binding from the stock shifter, i decided to go with the cable shifte. its a bit of a puzzle when you first get it opened and layed out, but it goes to gether very smooth. it took about 2 hours to do from start to finish. it worsks beond expectations, no binding smooth shifting and looks good. great job Advance .

shifter review (Feb 23, 2012)
by Aaron Doty from Marysville Michogan
5/5
Shifted came in disassembled with horrible instructions. Was also missing one of the set screws. On the plus side all parts were high quality and shifted worked perfectly once assembled and installed.

My $.02 (Nov 20, 2011)
by Michaele Giles from Dallas, Tx
5/5
After replacing factory linkage for the second time, I decided to stop the insanity. I was delighted to see the shifter adapter on the website. After speaking extensively to one of the techs at AA, I felt this was a permanent solution to my persistent issue.
Pros: The shifter is more solid and dependable than stock. No crappy plastic bushings that last a week or two. No awkward linkage angles makes it easy to shift. No more shoving and pounding the shifter to get it where you think may be the right position.
Cons: Putting this thing together is no picnic. Pictures are not clear enough on instruction sheet. Take those pics and put them on the website, please. I only saw breakdown on the website video, could not find installation on website. I am a visual learner so these tools suit me better than a piece of paper with a bunch of words on it. Thanks.
I have only wheeled my '03TJ once since install but I already like this shifter much better and have recommended it to others who struggle with their factory equipment.
Staff is excellent and knowledgable. Thanks for taking the time to answer all my questions and help me make the best decision. They are professional and courteous as well as patient. Thanks, guys!

Fine Equipment! (Sep 11, 2011)
by Cory from Eden Prairie, MN
5/5
Now that it's installed, a fine piece of equipment. Fits perfectly, shifts smoothly, looks to be very tough and durable.
A couple notes about installation:
1) Make sure you get all the right parts! I received a cable that has 1" travel, and this kit for the NP231 needs a cable with 2" travel. I noticed the problem before installation, and Advanced Adapters quickly sent me the correct cable.
2) You have to assemble the shifter assembly from scratch... it comes COMPLETELY disassembled. Not difficult to put together, but I was a bit surprised, based on the pictures of the product online, assembled and appearing ready to install.
3) You can adjust the cable travel at both ends- so prior to install put the tube housing at the shifter housng about 1/2" out from twisted all the way in... that will give you the needed room to adjust the end at the t-case without having to loosen up the one by then shifter when underneath the vehicle. At least that's how it worked on my '97 Wrangler...
Overall, I'd HIGHLY recommend this product!

Provides Solid 4WD shifts (Aug 10, 2011)
by Geoff from York, PA
5/5
After lifting my Jeep and adding a NV4500 I was tired of the stock linkage not always finding and staying in 4Lo. This product is great, shifts are solid and have feel, no need for a shift light indicator. The only downside is you have to be ok with the shifter working in reverse.
