The Ranger Torque Splitter is an auxiliary gear box that bolts in front of the standard Chevy, Ford and Land Cruiser 4 speed transmissions. This fully synchronized unit allows you to split your gears at any time. Does not fit NV4500 5 speeds.

The Ranger Torque Splitter is an auxiliary gear box that bolts in front of the standard Chevy, Ford and Land Cruiser 4 speed transmissions. This fully synchronized unit allows you to split your gears at any time. Does not fit NV4500 5 speeds.
 
The Ranger has been in production since the late 1960s, and Advance Adapters has been manufacturing the unit since 1976. Through the years it has gone through several design changes. Today’s unit is cast aluminum, measuring 7-1/2”. The gears are helical cut and the shifting mechanism is a short throw manual shift. The unit is built to handle 420 ft./lbs. of torque and has a G.V.W. rating of 25,000 lbs. This unit is ideal for towing applications or improving gas milage by lowering the RPMs.
 
The unit weighs 80 lbs. and is easily shipped via UPS. It has a 1 year unlimited mile warranty from the date of shipment.

Great Unit

I bought this unit and mated it up to a 01' 4.3L Vortec coupled to a SM-420. Installation was straight forward and caution tags came installed on all important components.
One issue I had was the castings for the bellhousing bolts were taped in the opposite order IE threaded on top when should have came drilled and drilled on bottom when should have been taped, this was not an issue for me as I simply taped the necessary holes for the bell housing. ( I may have had an odd bell housing as I picked this one up at the local junk yard).
The throw on the shifter is very short and smooth! The unit makes a noticeable whine while in high gear; the noise is not unbearable but you may have to raise the volume on your radio a notch or two.
I say this but it is important for me to note it is installed on a 71' FJ-40 chassis with minor sound-dampening upgrades to the cab.
